No future for hydrogen? Former CIA chief Woolsey thinks so [12.4.7]

Woolsey, who now is the chairman of the U.S. Advisory Board of the Clean Fuels Foundation, is a vocal proponent of energy independence and an unlikely ally of the environmental movement, at least when it comes to alternative fuels. The statements in his speech echo those he made in May 2007 in an interview with Motor Trend (Oil Warrior: Former CIA chief James Woolsey says if you want to beat Bin Laden, buy a Prius), where he also said that plug-in hybrids are the best solution in the short term for reducing dependence on oil. He believes hydrogen is unworkable because setting up a hydrogen infrastructure alone would cost over $1 trillion and that the cost of hydrogen cars would have to be reduced by 40-50 percent in the meantime to make them affordable. Many estimates say that hydrogen vehicles won't be commercially viable until 2020 at the earliest.

But that hasn't stopped Honda, with its FCX (First Drive: 2009 Honda FCX Clarity), BMW with its Hydrogen 7, and GM, with its prominent fuel cell efforts -- in addition to multiple other automakers -- from moving forward with hydrogen-powered vehicle development.

I think that in future hydrogen cars would be very popular.Evereyone would be using them. They are good fuel cell cars.
